New Picture Books December 2018

Guys! I can't believe it's December can you? There is so much going on this month for many of us and that is no exception for publishers, authors and illustrators as well. I have an abundance of picture books to talk about that are coming out so I hope that you are ready! Let's dive in and see what to expect this month shall we?

If you decide to buy a book I will make a small affiliate commission at no additional cost to you. Thank you for supporting Storytime Sarah!

Little Owl's Snow

Divya Srinivasan

Ages 3-5 | To be released December 4th

I have to admit I have a slight obsession with owls. I don't shy away from titles that involve these beautiful creatures. We first meet little owl in Little Owl's Night. Since then Srinivasan has taken little owl on adventures to introduce children through many different beginning concept books. Little Owl's Snow is an introduction to winter, especially seeing as its little Owls first snowfall and winter. A perfect way to discuss different seasons and an adorable character for our children to enjoy.

Miss Pinkeltink's Purse

Patty Brozo & Ana Ochoa

Ages 4-7 | To be released December 4th

I have to give a round of applause to Brozo for writing this book. If your child has not had a first hand encounter with those that are homeless, this may be a great story to read and remind our kids to help others in need. This is especially true as our main character, Miss Pinkletink, is homeless but yet still manages to help others.

Goat's Coat

Tom Percival & Christine Pym

Ages 3-6 | To be released December 4th

This book would do great to coincide with Miss Pinkletink. This cute goat loves his new coat, but then he notices other animals in need of help. Wonderful rhyming, adorable pictures and a story of what kindness means to others. Sounds like a winning combination.

Owls Are Good At Keeping Secrets

Sara O'Leary & Jacob Grant

Ages 3-7 | To be released December 4th

See, I told you I was obsessed with owls, however, this book is not only about owls! I saw the pictures of this book and I just fell in love with it. It's an alphabet book that contains interesting "facts" about the animals within as well. For example, did you know that elephants are happiest at bathtime? Simply adorable and a fun way to learn the alphabet.

Romeosaurus and Juliet Rex

Mo O'Hara & Andrew Joyner

Ages 4-8 | To be released December 11th

OK, seriously, doesn't this look hilarious? We have two dinosaurs, their species are sworn enemies, but they are great friends! Whatever will this mean for them? O'Hara has taken two things that I enjoy, Shakespeare and Dinosaurs, to create this adorable, and hilarious picture book and I cannot wait to read it.

Isle of You

David LaRochelle & Jaime Kim

Ages 3-7 | To be released December 11th

This cover is simply stunning and the context of this story even more. Sometimes we have to deal with difficult things and we don't know how to handle them. LaRochelle recommends to return to the Isle of You; using your imagination to place yourself in a happier position. It sounds like a beautiful way to meditate and envision yourself where ever you are happy, and he created that place as the Isle of You.

The Cars and Trucks Book

Todd Parr

Ages 5-6 | To be released December 24th

I think you all know about my obsession with Todd Parr. I can tell you right now this is going on my list for my nephews 1st birthday! For any child that love cars and trucks, this will definitely be a great addition, especially because I always love how Parr adds a way to explore positivism with children.

The ABC's of What I Can Be

Caitlin McDonagh

Ages 3-7 | To be released December 24th

Have you ever talked to your child about what they want to be when they grow up? Today I feel those possibilities are endless for our children if we allow them to believe. This fun new read will explore the alphabet and different careers that our children can choose. I love that they have depicted a diverse bunch of children so that every child can see themselves within different careers! According to Kirkus review, the children depict over 100 careers! Behold the endless possibilities.

Other great picture book releases:

Oddly enough and I know it may be hard to believe, but it is looking like December will be the month to release great titles in anticipation for Valentine's Day. It is hard to believe that we can think that far ahead but it doesn't hurt to take a peak at what to expect. There is nothing wrong with getting a book sooner to show the child in your life how much you care about them.

10 Little Kisses

Taylor Garland

Ages 2-5 | To be released December 4th

Children love real images, especially real photos of animals! I fell in love with the cover of this book. It doesn't have reviews or anything but it looks like a sweet counting book with images of animals showing love!

The Littlest Things Give the Loveliest Hugs

Mark Sperring & Maddie Frost

Ages 3-6 | To be released December 4th

Isn't this the truth? This new read will be great for Valentine's day but also to be read year round. I love that the illustrations have a similar feel to Eric Carle's collages. This sweet read looks simply adorable.

I Love You, Little Pookie

Sandra Boynton

To be released December 4th

Sandra Boynton is adding another sweet read to her collection. This sweet read shows the love between a mother and her child, but in all honesty I am sure can show the love between anyone and their child. I didn't add the ages because I feel this one will be shared with babies to preschoolers vs the age that

I'll Love You Till The Cows Come Home

Katheryn Cristaldi & Kristyna Litten

Ages 4-8 | To be released December 18th

If you love Guess How Much I Love you, but are looking for something with a little more humor, then this is your new read. I certainly cannot wait to read it because I love silly. I adore the concept of Guess How Much I Love You so its nice to see a new take on ways to express your love. Let's face it, some of us just love to be silly.

Love, Z

Jessie Sima

Ages 4-8 | To be released December 18th

I adored Sima's Not Quite Narwhal, so I had to recommend her newest title Love, Z. What is the meaning of love? Our little Robot is trying to discover just that after finding a letter signed Love, Beatrice. Sometimes we try to find love elsewhere when really it can be right in front of our faces.

Hugs & Kisses for the Grouchy Ladybug

Eric Carle

To be released December 18th

I enjoy when they release special editions of characters from Eric Carle's works. I don't know why but when I was younger I loved The Grouchy Ladybug. Sometimes we just need hugs and kisses when we are feeling grouchy.

That's Me Loving You

Amy Krouse Rosenthal & Teagan White

To be released December 18th

That's Me Loving You came out originally December 2016, this is the board book release which is perfect for our little ones. Rosenthal is another one of my favorite authors and she has such a variety of great children's books. Many recently have been the sentimental stories that we do need in our lives, especially when expressing our love to the children in our lives.

Who Loves Boo?

Salina Yoon

To be released December 24th

I love hide and seek books for our littles and if your young ones love kitty cats then this may be a sweet addition for Valentines day this coming year.

Other great Valentines Day themed titles:

Oh my goodness ya'll I know that was an overload! But I wanted to make sure that I didn't miss anything, especially when it came to showcasing these new picture books for this coming Valentine's day. These of course do not have to wait for then. There are many stories that are perfect for reading many times during the year. I hope you all are also excited about the other great picture books that are coming out this month! Stay tuned for my post for new chapter books and graphic novels coming out this month.
